SCILLA-VILLAFRANCA DUAL THREE-PHASE 380kV CABLE LINK
The Rizziconi source plant facility consists of two 380 kV HVAC circuits and each circuit is composed of three single core cables.
The cables will connect the Villafranca Tirrena substation in Sicily with the Scilla substation in Calabria.
The link capacity will be 1000 MVA for each three-phase system.

A section of 380 kV dual three-phase line in submarine/terrestrial cable in liquid oil, of length approximately 38 km, from the landing point located in Fiumara Gallo, (Municipality of Villafranca Tirrena – province of Messina), to the OF/XLPE junction located at the Favazzina landing point in the municipality of Scilla (province of Reggio Calabria).
This consists of a short section between the land/sea interface junction pit and the tunnel in the locality of Favazzina where the cables are buried in the culvert. A section of a 380 kV XLPE dual three-phase land power line, extending for approximately 3 km, open-laid in a dedicated tunnel, from the Favazzina tunnel entrance to the Scilla power station in Reggio Calabria.
A section of a 380 kV dual three-phase XLPE land power line, of length approximately 2 km, buried in a tunnel, from the OF/XLPE land/sea interface pit located near the submarine cable landing point in Fiumara Gallo, to the new Villafranca Tirrena power station (province of Mesina) in the municipality of Villafranca Tirrena (province of Mesina).
The cables planned for the land section consist of the single core copper conductor with 2500 mm2 cross section, insulated in XLPE and rated to a nominal voltage of 380 kV.
